Traveling to Spain
Do I need a passport or visa to travel to Spain?
If you are an American or Brazilian citizen, you will need a passport to enter Spain (part of the European Union). Ensure your passport is up to date and valid for at least six months after your return date.
U.S. citizens do not require a visa for short stays of up to 90 days in Spain. For more information, click here.
What’s the best way to fly to Mallorca? Are there direct flights?
Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) is the main airport in Mallorca. For travelers departing from North or South America, direct flights to PMI are limited. However, for friends and family in the New York/New Jersey area, United Airlines recently introduced a non-stop flight from Newark to Palma. There are also frequent connecting flights to Palma with short layovers in cities such as London, Madrid, or Barcelona, operated by airlines like Iberia, American Airlines, and Delta.
How long is the flight from the U.S. to Spain?
A non-stop flight from Newark to Palma takes approximately 8 hours.
Connecting flights, including layovers, typically range from 10 to 12 hours but may vary depending on the duration of the layover.
What is the currency in Spain?
Spain uses the Euro (€). You can exchange U.S. dollars for Euros at the airport or withdraw local currency from ATMs. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted throughout Spain.
What is the time difference?
Mallorca uses Central European Standard Time. Mallorca is 6 hours ahead of New York (Eastern Time) and 4 hours ahead of São Paulo.
Will my phone work in Spain?
Most major U.S. carriers offer international plans. Check with your provider to confirm coverage in Spain. Alternatively, you can purchase an international SIM card at the airport, local shops, or directly at a local cell phone service provider (Vodafone, Orange, Movistar). You can also always use Wi-Fi for communication. If you do choose to use an international SIM, many American phones require unlocking prior to installing/using an international SIM.
Transportation & Lodging
What’s the best way to get from the airport to Palma?
Palma is about a 20-minute drive from Palma de Mallorca Airport. You can get to Palma using a rental car, taxi, or bus.
For the welcome party and wedding celebration, we will be providing shuttle services to and from the venues. The Shuttles will depart from a location near the port. Exact location TBA.
If you plan to explore the island beyond Palma, we recommend renting a car, as Mallorca is a large island with much to see.
Do I need a car in Mallorca?
If you’re attending the wedding only, you don’t need a car. Shuttles will be available from a central meeting point in Palma to the wedding venue.
If you plan to explore other parts of the island or extend your stay, renting a car is highly recommended. Mallorca boasts charming towns and beautiful beaches, many within 30–40 minutes of Palma. Please note, If you do choose to rent a car, we don’t recommend driving to the wedding venue. Use the provided shuttles or shared ride services instead. You do not need an international driver’s license to rent a car in Mallorca.
Where Do I Stay in Mallorca?
We recommend guests stay in Palma for the duration of the wedding weekend. We will be staying at the hotel Can Bordoy. If you choose to stay there as well, you can use code LOSAYDINS for a 5% discount. If you choose to stay elsewhere, there are plenty of hotel and holiday rental options available. Please see our hotels page for more recommendations in the area.
Do I need to book a hotel through a block?
We do not have a block at a single hotel due to the size limitations of hotels in Palma. Alternatively, we have provided a list of suggested hotels near our shuttle pickup location. Please see the list, as discount codes will also be provided where possible. Mallorca also offers many Airbnb options.
Keep in mind that shuttles will be arranged from Palma. If you stay outside of Palma and choose not to use the shuttles, you’ll need to arrange your own transportation to and from the wedding venues (e.g., Uber).
The Wedding Celebration
What should I pack for Spain?
The weather in Mallorca during July is warm, sunny, and dry, making it one of the best months to visit the island. Daytime temperatures typically range from 28°C to 32°C (82°F to 90°F), with plenty of sunshine and minimal rainfall. Evenings are pleasantly warm, with temperatures rarely dropping below 20°C (68°F).
For daytime, we recommend packing comfortable clothing like shorts, shirts, linens, and light colors.
For the welcome party and wedding celebration, please see a detailed dress code here.
Can I bring my kids?
We absolutely love kids and would be thrilled to have them join in the celebration! Due to limited space, we kindly ask that you reach out to us directly so we can make the necessary arrangements.
Where can I get my hair and makeup done in Palma?
Here is a brief list of beauty salons in Palma we recommend.
Can I bring gifts?
We kindly ask you to refrain from bringing large physical gifts, as we’ll be traveling afterward and transporting gifts may be challenging. If you’d like to send us a physical gift or card, our mailing address is: 320 E 35th Street, Apartment 4D, New York, NY 10016.
Alternatively, we will have a gift registry available on our website (HERE) in the coming weeks.
Do I have to take the shuttle to the wedding?
We will be chartering shuttles from a main meeting point near the port. There will be shuttles to both the welcome party and wedding celebration. The final pick-up location will be shared on this site closer to the wedding date.
On the day of the wedding, Saturday July 12th, we recommend not driving to the venue, if possible, as the venue itself has limited parking and is located on a narrow, windy road. We advise against anyone drinking and driving home afterwards.
If you choose to Uber, we recommend scheduling your return ride ahead of time, as the venue is located in the mountains and Ubers can be scarce.
